Alchemy Gothic

 Fashion Imitating Art

Cutting edge fashion has always sought to challenge the mainstream and traditional ideas about how clothing should look, feel and be worn. At Londonedge & Londoncentral, many of our exhibitors are led by their passion for art and design alongside a love of fashion and the result is often visually astounding. Instead of being led by trends, Londonedge and Londonecentral brands are often inspired by beauty in fashion – ignoring categories and boxes in favour communicating a message or creating theatrical drama.

One such collection is ‘Metropolis’ which will be exhibited for the first time at Londonedge in September. Created by Spanish footwear designer Octavio Vera, this line is themed and inspired by the Steampunk movement with an industrial / gothic ambience.

Octavio said: “Having freelanced and co-operated with different brands for the last 15 years as a footwear designer, this time I wanted to present my own and last designer collection.

“I really enjoy making shoes that are one-of-a-kind, giving no limits to the design and creation and inviting my clients on a journey back in time that they do not expect.”

Also hailing from Spain is designer Bibian Blue, whose self-named collection of corsetry and accessories swings from formal and elegant to radical and non-conformist but always works to emphasise the beauty of the female form. Bibian takes her inspiration from high fashion, pop and retro scenes, music, graphic novels and period costume. This melange of muses results in an emotive, affecting range that perfectly demonstrates the importance of alternative fashion. Visit www.bibianblue.com.

Event director Jackie Farr said: “We never fail to be astounded by the sheer creativity of the exhibiting companies at Londonedge and Londoncentral. Not only do they offer buyers something exciting and different, they produce true works of art that anyone would be proud to own. The two stunning designers cited above produce merchandise that is so stunning, you never know, they could even become collectable.”

The next Londonedge and Londoncentral will take place from 5-7th September 2010 at the Olympia National Hall, Kensington, London, W14. For further information please contact +44 (0) 1162 898 249 or info@londonedge.com. Visit www.londonedge.com.
